Hi all. I listened to the bit on main menu about jaws 8.0, and i have to admit i'm quite impressed. Did anyone else hear this main menu presentation? What
do you think about it if you did? I certainly hope this release goes better than 7.1.

Post 2 by maddog (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Thursday, 12-Oct-2006 1:36:26

Well, all I have to say, is I hope they fixed internet explorer, because it totally sucks with 7.1 right now...I use to like the interfase a whole lot more when I had jaws 7.0. I've just been too lazy to downgrade.

Post 3 by Texas Shawn (The cute, cuddley, little furr ball) on Thursday, 12-Oct-2006 9:16:54

hmmm, I'll have to check main minu out, but I usually give new versions some time to breath out all there bugs before I switch and then only if it has something cool in it I could use. I realize it's out yet nor will be for a while I imagine. If it isn't broke don't fix it.

Post 4 by jessmonsilva (Taking over the boards, one topic at a time.) on Thursday, 12-Oct-2006 14:30:10

Good call Ather. I am using jaws 7.1 myself in MCSE class, and although I like it better in some things, in others it absolutely blows. I do wanna see the beta though.

Post 5 by frequency (the music man) on Friday, 13-Oct-2006 10:58:14

beta? there will be no beta. Because of the 700MB text to speech engine, they'll be shipping it in a bi-fold sleeve.

Post 6 by The Roman Battle Mask (Making great use of my Employer's time.) on Friday, 13-Oct-2006 16:18:58

I'm not particularly impressed. I just hope they fix the bugs with certain links being reported as forms in firefox 2.0 r2 and I'll be happy.

Post 7 by jessmonsilva (Taking over the boards, one topic at a time.) on Friday, 13-Oct-2006 16:21:49

Yeah, I just saw that on main menu yesterday, about there being no beta.

I am a bit upset though, no vista support, hmmmm, I guess I can see why though.

Post 8 by SingerOfSongs (Heresy and apostasy is how progress is made.) on Friday, 13-Oct-2006 17:52:14

Ather (or others), if you don't like the way IE acts in 7.1 you can tell it to switch back to what they call the classic interface. you do it in the jaws configuration, I believe somewhere in the html settings, but I could be wrong on that part.

Post 9 by rat (star trek rules!) on Friday, 13-Oct-2006 18:29:18

no, you are right. does anyone have the main menu link or file? i'm not sure i can listen to it online, so the file would be nice. please pm me if you have the file and i'll give you me email to send it too if it isn't too large

Post 10 by Jesse (Hmm!) on Friday, 13-Oct-2006 18:55:17

Jaws is getting like AOL...Big and bloated!

Post 11 by IEHater (Account disabled) on Friday, 13-Oct-2006 22:39:10

Well, I believe that the fact that it doesn't work with Vista is going to hurt it and the company. Window-Eyes works with Vista's RC2, though not as well as I would like. wouldn't think it would be a major change for them.

Post 12 by frequency (the music man) on Friday, 13-Oct-2006 23:25:03

there isn't a major demand for it to work with pista right now. I'm sure they'll have something available on the day of, or soon after the release of microblote's new OS.

Post 13 by season (the invisible soul) on Friday, 13-Oct-2006 23:31:01

i'm looking forward for jaws 8, but then, i truely wish that they could solve the problem out from jaws 7 and 7.1.
in my opinion, jaws 6.2 is the most stable version out of all the recent version.

Post 14 by rdfreak (THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE-BLUE KANGA-KICKIN AUSIE) on Saturday, 14-Oct-2006 0:21:44

haven't heard tmainmenu yet but well must go check it out :) hate always upgrading though.

Post 15 by lights_rage (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 14-Oct-2006 1:07:08

I liked it and need to make sure they send my new version to my school. shit i hope it doesnt screw up j-say pro

Post 16 by buk buk buk (move over school!) on Saturday, 14-Oct-2006 18:22:39

I hope they fixed video intercept.

Post 17 by bmisch (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 14-Oct-2006 18:24:09

I like hearing the new version especially witth that new synth in it. good thing it isn't tied to jaws like eloquence is.

Post 18 by IEHater (Account disabled) on Saturday, 14-Oct-2006 18:46:59

Well, as for microsoft and Vista, I can't stand them either. However, I think that as soon as blind people hwear about Vista (Especially businessmen), there will be a demand for it. The business version of Vista will be out in November if it isn't delayed.

Post 19 by rdfreak (THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE-BLUE KANGA-KICKIN AUSIE) on Saturday, 14-Oct-2006 19:27:15

Well I heard it and am pretty impressed. I do have a lot of those sappy5 synths already though. :) and I don't know much about internet explorer 7 so not sure how different it is. from what they said though, i like the sound of having multiple pages open at once.

Post 20 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Sunday, 15-Oct-2006 8:26:56

Well, not being a jaws user, I'm looking forward to hearing you all bitch about what they've broken, and what they've implemented that only half works. They always do this, in some vain attempt to be the first to release this that and the other. it's laughable.

Tomorrow sees windoweyes 6.0 beta 1, and I look forward to having yet another decent worthwhile upgrade that I know without doubt will be stable by the time 6.0 is finally released in a couple of months. The betas are normally pretty stable, and they actually listen to the faults users find with it, and fix them, so happy times for you jaws users, while I know I'll be impressed and not needing to bitch.

Post 21 by Bryan (This site is so "educational") on Sunday, 15-Oct-2006 11:45:02

here's hoping jaws 8.0 is better then jaws 7.0 and 7.1, if not will being going back to jaws 6.2. and no more upgrades, maybe trying another product.

Post 22 by Telemachus (Death: the destroyer of worlds.) on Sunday, 15-Oct-2006 13:21:27

I will not upgrade until it's absolutely necessary.

And, since Window Eyes now apparently lets you use JAWS keystrokes, I may eventually break down and switch. Not until I am completely unable to use JAWS 7, though.

Post 23 by Manwe (The Dark Lord) on Sunday, 15-Oct-2006 16:14:17

yeah i don't like 7.1 i must admit, it's not what i'd call friendly. jaws7 is good for me, accept when it gets abit slow on IE sometimes, but that's not as bad as it could be.

Post 24 by Leafs Fan (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Monday, 16-Oct-2006 9:55:34

First of all, I agree with Season in that 6.2 was the most stable version in recent times. Second, I would say FS will deliver on version 8. I haven't yet listened to the Main Menu bit, but I was impressed by the short summary I read. After the disaster of 7.1, including the farcically inept public beta test cycle, I would say the company will want to make a big splash and redeem itself with version 8. It sounds like that will happen. Does anyone know when version 8 is expected?

Post 25 by blake (Zone BBS Addict) on Monday, 16-Oct-2006 11:01:51

Well, according to Eric Dammory on the Oct. 11 edition of Main Menu, jaws 8.0 should be released and in the hands of users by the end of 2006. Personally, I hope 8.0 comes to me by Christmas.

Post 26 by sparkie (the hilljack) on Wednesday, 18-Oct-2006 20:02:08

I'm not waisting my money. I spent an upgrade on 7 and ended up going back to 6 because fs will fix something then break something else.

As of now, I'm still using 6.2. I didn't bother putting 7 on my computer, because I heard that there was so many problems with it. I just received my version 8 in the mail yesterday. I haven't put it on the computer yet, though. I'm honestly a little nervous. JAWS 6.2 has been great for me. Has anyone tried version 8 yet? If so, how is it thus far?

Post 28 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Tuesday, 28-Nov-2006 10:58:02

I'm with you. I got my version of 8 yesterday too and am still on 6 and have no intention of moving up to 7 or 8. Probably every program I use, from Skype to Windows Messenger to Ventrilo to Winamp has been updated at least once since I started using it, and I just don't care. LOL. What I use works for me, and that's all I care about.

Post 29 by The Roman Battle Mask (Making great use of my Employer's time.) on Tuesday, 28-Nov-2006 19:22:56

it is much better, more responsive and has good support for IE7 and firefox 2.0

Post 30 by sparkie (the hilljack) on Tuesday, 28-Nov-2006 20:19:04

I upgraded to 8. Not bad although there's a few bugs I've noticed. The pc cursor has a tracking issue on IE6 and the alt tab key works but is slow to report. I like the new sapi voices just wish sapi didn't drag so much, meaning it seems slower to response but over 8 is ok just wish fs would get the few bugs out. I've also heard people are having issues with 8 and google but I have not had those issues. Jaws8 also acts strange on my space at times but that's do to the cursor tracking issue.

I have Jaws 8.0 and firefox 2.0.0.1, and it reads one word per line. Is there any way of making jaws read things propperly?

Post 32 by smudge (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Monday, 12-Feb-2007 10:42:54

very slow and non responsive. sticking with 6.20 until problem is solved.

Post 33 by Musical Ambition (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Monday, 12-Feb-2007 11:44:36

I actually went ahead and put 8.0 on my computer, and it seems to be working fine for me.

Post 34 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Monday, 12-Feb-2007 13:15:08

going back a bit jaws 8 has some definite issues with myspace. It also I find cuts off when trying to open certaint hings such as a word document or a new message in outlook express. I wish I could go back to 6.2. Anyway that's all for now.
